Marvel story update – 10 May 07
I don’t know what comic it’ll be placed in, nor do I know the release date yet, but I do know my Marvel story titled “Memorial Day” is becoming a reality. I just received an image of the first page from penciler Paul Neary, and I have to say it is some stunning work. Known most recently for his inks on Bryan Hitch’s pencils on The Ultimates, Paul has been itching to get some penciling work again. Editor John Barber thought this 10-page story might be just the thing to ease him back into the penciling waters. What I’ve seen is that Paul didn’t just ease in, he jumped in head-first.
In my opinion one of the hardest things to draw is a close-up shot of eyes. It’s difficult to put emotion and depth in a set of eyes on a 2-dimensional surface. That’s what I gave Paul for the first panel, and he nailed it. It’s perfectly what I was going for.
The other panels are just as great as he shows he can handle both Wolverine and Spider-Man equally well. There is a stunning shot of Spider-Man crawling across the ceiling.
It’s a great time for this story to be coming out, with Spider-Man in the public’s mind as the movie Spider-Man 3 was just released this past weekend. Hopefully the comic comes out soon enough to capitalize on that connection.
More to come as the comic’s title and release date are given to me. To see some of my non-Marvel work, check out my independent horror comic, Devolution, which can be found at www.ComicCritique.com.
